8.29

今云藥草品者，可含二義：一者、得述成中根領解；二者、廣明佛教利益無邊。述成但得成前，闕於後義故不云述成品。又領解題信解，就法為名，述成稱藥草，據譬為稱，欲法譬兩存，不應一類立名也。

Calling it the Medicinal Herbs Chapter here can encompass two meanings: first, it accomplishes the confirmation of the intermediate faculties' comprehension; second, it broadly clarifies the Buddha's teaching as being of boundless benefit. 'Confirmation' would only achieve the former and lack the latter meaning, which is why it is not called the Confirmation Chapter. Furthermore, comprehension was titled 'Belief and Understanding' as a name based on the Dharma, while confirmation is called 'Medicinal Herbs' as a designation based on a parable; wishing to preserve both Dharma and parable, they should not be titled in an identical manner.
