凡有三義：一者、上品明阿難之德，預是佛法第二師，雖非無學而在無學眾攝；今據其位分，既是初果故不入無學眾攝。

There are three meanings altogether. First, the previous chapter explained Ānanda's virtue: he was already the second teacher of the Buddhadharma, so although not an adept, he was included in the assembly of adepts. Now, based on his stage, since he is at the first fruit, he is not included in the assembly of adepts.
