叡師傳羅什解云：「分身明其不實，則知二佛非真，不二為實」；又理數應爾，但應直開寶塔，何因普集分身？故知託多寶之願，欲顯不二之本、不一之迹，所以集分身耳。《法華論》云「示現無量佛者，示現彼此佛所作業無差別，故說集分身佛」。

Master Rui transmitted Kumārajīva's explanation, which said: "Calling them emanated bodies clarifies that they are not real; thus we know that neither Buddha is the real one, and that non-duality is the real." Furthermore, the principle and numbers should be like this: they should simply have opened the jeweled stūpa directly; for what reason would they universally assemble the emanated bodies? Therefore we know that, relying on Prabhūtaratna's vow, he wished to reveal the non-dual fundamental and the not-one traces; that is why he assembled the emanated bodies. The *Fahua lun* says: "Manifesting immeasurable Buddhas shows that the deeds performed by these Buddhas and those Buddhas are without distinction; therefore it speaks of assembling the emanated Buddhas."
