親友惠益可有始終二事：初則設以酒饍，終則惠之重寶。重寶是後時富貴之因，酒饍是當時會遇樂。初稟大乘亦具二事：一者、當時得益，如飲酒怡情；次、解染神歷劫不朽，譬同繫寶珠也。

The close friend's bestowal of benefit can involve two matters, beginning and end: in the beginning he provided wine and food, and in the end he bestowed a valuable treasure. The valuable treasure is the cause of later wealth and nobility; the wine and food are the joy of their present encounter. Initially receiving the Mahāyāna also comprises two matters: first, obtaining benefit at that time, like drinking wine to gladden the spirit; second, the understanding perfuming the consciousness so that it does not perish across kalpas, which is likened to tying the precious jewel.
