Intending to reveal the ekayāna as the real, one must first clarify the triyāna as upāya. If one does not first clarify the triyāna as upāya, then one cannot reveal the ekayāna as the real. Therefore this sūtra states, "Opening the gate of upāya to show the mark of the real." The Zhujing says, "Having sounded the inception of aiming at unity, one should first distinguish the intention behind dividing into three," both of which are proofs of this.
