1.14

有二種菩薩：一、直往菩薩，二、迴小入大菩薩。自昔以來為直往菩薩說菩薩行，今欲為迴小入大菩薩說菩薩行，故說是經。

There are two kinds of bodhisattvas: first, direct bodhisattvas; second, bodhisattvas who turn from the small to enter the great. From the past up until now, he has preached the bodhisattva practices for direct bodhisattvas; now, desiring to preach the bodhisattva practices for bodhisattvas who turn from the small to enter the great, he therefore preached this sūtra.
