《論》云「以佛乘出離二乘濁泥水故，喻如蓮華」，又云「此花諸佛菩薩而坐其上，此經亦為令捨二乘鄙賤之人同得入一乘，與諸佛菩薩同坐妙法蓮華之坐，故借蓮華為喻」。猶是十義中兩義耳。

The Treatise says: "Because the buddha-vehicle emerges free from the muddy water of the two vehicles, it is likened to a lotus." It also says: "The buddhas and bodhisattvas sit atop this flower; this sūtra likewise aims to cause those who abandon the mean and lowly two vehicles to enter together into the single vehicle and sit together with the buddhas and bodhisattvas upon the seat of the wondrous Dharma lotus; hence it takes the lotus as a simile." These are merely two of the ten meanings.
