若《華嚴》但顯教菩薩不密化聲聞者，則應但明大法，何故亦辨小乘？如〈賢首品〉云「或說聲聞小乘門，或說緣覺中乘門，或說無上大乘門」，乃至〈性起品〉中具說五乘之教，何由爾耶？

If the Avataṃsaka only manifestly teaches bodhisattvas and does not secretly transform śrāvakas, then it should only elucidate the great Dharma; why does it also distinguish the Hīnayāna? As the 'Bhadraśrī' chapter says, 'Or expounds the śrāvaka small vehicle gate, or expounds the pratyekabuddha middling vehicle gate, or expounds the unexcelled great vehicle gate,' and even in the 'Tathāgatotpattisaṃbhava' chapter fully expounds the teachings of the five vehicles—how can this be so?
