The Eulogy says: The third is the assembly of respected nuns. In Sanskrit it is Mahāprajāpatī; here it is translated as 'Great Lord of Superior Beings'. The Buddha had three mothers, and this was his junior mother. Māyā died seven days after giving birth to the Buddha; this nun raised the Buddha, and being of the same kind as Māyā's sister, she was called his maternal aunt. 'Great Lord of Superior Beings' was originally the name of the Brahmā King, because all sentient beings are his children; having prayed to him and obtained her, she was named after him. Furthermore, all disciples of the Buddha are called 'greatly born'; the noble assemblies of the three vehicles are called 'superiorly born'; because she raised the Buddha, she is 'mother of the great and superiorly born'. The master of the great and superiorly born is called 'Great Lord of Superior Beings'; although obtained by praying to him, she was also named according to this meaning. The old rendering 'Bojeboti' translated as 'Great Path of Love' is both corrupted and abbreviated. The circumstances of her ordination are as recounted in the Vinaya.
