第一敘經起意者，略由五義：一為酬因請，二為破疑執，三為彰記行，四為利今後，五為顯時機。酬因請中有二：一酬因，二酬請。

First, regarding the intention behind the sūtra's origination, it broadly arises from five meanings: first, to respond to causes and respond to requests; second, to destroy doubts and attachments; third, to reveal prophecies and practices; fourth, to benefit present and future beings; fifth, to manifest the right time and capacity. In "responding to causes and requests" there are two aspects: first, responding to causes; second, responding to requests.
