1.86

上上起門者，由上句故下句得起，或由下句上句方起，起非唯一故名上上起。論以第二句釋初句云：「諸漏已盡故名阿羅漢」，即是論言「應已永害煩惱賊故名阿羅漢」。

As for the approach of successive arising: by virtue of the preceding phrase the subsequent phrase is able to arise, or by virtue of the subsequent phrase the preceding phrase only then arises; because the arising is not merely singular, it is called successive arising. The treatise explains the first phrase by means of the second phrase, saying: "Because their outflows are already exhausted, they are called arhats"; this corresponds to the treatise's statement: "They are worthy, having already perpetually slain the thieves of defilement; hence they are called arhats."
