The Eulogy says: In this chapter, the major text is divided into six: first, Nakṣatrarājasaṅkusumitābhijña raises questions; second, the Tathāgata answers him; third, from "Furthermore, if a person fills the three-thousand great thousand [worlds] with the seven treasures" onward, the praise of the wonderful merits of the sūtra; fourth, from "Nakṣatrarājasaṅkusumitābhijña, if there is a person who hears this Ancient Accounts of Bodhisattva Bhaiṣajyarāja Chapter" onward, the praise of superiority and the entrustment; fifth, the contemporary assembly obtaining benefits; sixth, Prabhūtaratna praising it. These latter two are both at the end of the chapter. This first section has three parts: first, asking; next, requesting; and finally, clarifying the intention of the request. As for Nakṣatrarājasaṅkusumitābhijña asking: he has upheld the Lotus Sūtra since past lives, sovereign like a king. Therefore the Ratnamegha-sūtra says: "A bodhisattva possesses ten dharmas and is named a great medicinal tree, like the medicinal tree named Sudarśana. If sentient beings obtain its roots, trunk, branches, leaves, flowers, or fruits, or if they see its form, smell its fragrance, taste its flavor, or touch it, meeting these ten dharmas their diseases are all cured. The bodhisattva is also like this: from his initial arousal of the aspiration, on behalf of sentient beings who have various diseases of defilement, some are revived by relying on generosity, morality, patience, vigor, meditation, or wisdom; some are revived by seeing the Dharma, some by hearing sounds, some by knowing flavors, and some by shared activities. The bodhisattva guides and benefits them in accordance with their needs, causing them to gain benefit; therefore the bodhisattva is named a medicinal tree, being able to eradicate the diseases of defilement and cause them to live with the life of wisdom." "Wandering" means roaming and transforming, which refers to the methods of benefiting and rescuing sentient beings. "How many..." asks about the distinctions in his austerities, which refers to burning his body and arms to make offerings to the correct Dharma.
