The Commentary says: Below is the second [part], the answer. It has three [sections]: first, manifesting bodies to preach the Dharma; next, concluding the preceding to encourage and show; finally, being able to rescue from urgent perils. This is the first. Combining nineteen kinds, they are divided into eight classes: three for responding with sage bodies, six for responding with heavenly bodies, and five for responding with rulers and ministers. One whose mind is level and nature upright, whose words are true and conduct solid, and whose age is advanced and wealth abundant is called an elder (gṛhapati). One who preserves the Way, remains tranquil, has few desires, and accumulates virtue is called a householder (kulapati). One who occupies an official post and presides over people is called a minister. There is one for responding as the four assemblies, one for responding as women, one for responding as boys and girls, one for responding as the eight classes, and one for responding as a vajra-holding spirit. Holding a vajra in hand is a distinct form of Avalokiteśvara.
