贊曰：品文分四，一敘本緣、二會今古、三勸人歸禮、四結成眾益。初文復四：一敘時，二標佛，三明菩薩父子，四廣顯由緒。此初二也。

The Commentary says: The chapter text is divided into four: first, narrating the ancient conditions; second, identifying past and present; third, exhorting people to take refuge and pay homage; fourth, concluding with the assembly’s benefits. The first text again has four: first, narrating the time; second, indicating the buddha; third, explaining the bodhisattva father and sons; fourth, broadly revealing the origins. These are the first two.
