基以談遊之際，徒次博陵，道俗課虛，命講斯典，不能脩諸故義，遂乃自纂新文。夕制朝談，講終疏畢，所嗟學寡識淺、理編詞殫，經義深賾拙成光讚，兢兢依於聖教、慄慄採於玄宗，猶恐旨謬言疎，寧輒枉為援據。此經當途最要，人誰不贊幽文？既不能默爾無為，聊且用申狂簡。識達君子幸為余詳略焉。仍為頌曰：

When I, Kuiji, was traveling and conversing, our company stopped at Boling. Clergy and laity made demands of my deficiency, commanding me to lecture on this scripture. Unable to cultivate former interpretations, I thereupon compiled new writing myself. Composing in the evening and lecturing in the morning, when the lectures concluded, the commentary was finished. Lamenting my meager learning and shallow understanding, my reasoning was constrained and words exhausted; the scripture's meanings are profound and abstruse, while my clumsy effort became this illuminating eulogy. Apprehensively relying on the sacred teachings, tremulously gathering from the profound doctrine, I still fear that the purport may be mistaken and the phrasing crude, so how could I rashly make unjust references? This scripture is the most essential of the current path; who would not eulogize its mysterious text? Since I could not remain silently inactive, I have provisionally expressed my wild and simple thoughts. May discerning gentlemen kindly review and edit them for me. Whereupon I present the verse:
