贊曰：八頌半，分二：初一舌根用，餘舌具用。舌具用分四：一半巧說法，三眾來聽，一供養，二賢聖護。

The Commentary says: Eight and a half verses, divided into two: the first one [verse] is the functioning of the tongue faculty; the remainder is the functioning of the tongue as an instrument. The functioning of the tongue as an instrument is divided into four: half a [verse] on skillful preaching of the Dharma; three on assemblies coming to listen; one on offerings; two on protection by the worthy and noble.
