贊曰：品文分四：初牒前違順所生罪福以示眾人，第二別顯於說經持經之人違順人相，第三結會今古以示眾人違順之相，第四結勸眾人除違行順。此初也。罪如前〈譬喻品〉，功德如次前品。

The Commentary says: The chapter's text is divided into four: first, taking up the sins and merits produced by the previous violation and compliance in order to show them to the assembly; second, specifically revealing the personal marks of violation and compliance toward those who preach and uphold the sūtra; third, concluding and combining the present and the past to show the assembly the marks of violation and compliance; fourth, concluding by exhorting the assembly to eliminate violation and practice compliance. This is the first. The sins are as in the earlier 'Simile Chapter'; the merits are as in the chapter immediately preceding.
