The Commentary says: The following three verses eulogise the three events in the comportment: one verse and a half eulogise the raining down of flowers; half a verse, the quaking of the earth; and one verse, the rejoicing of the four assemblies. Here it eulogises the raining down of flowers but does not eulogise the entering into samādhi, because knowing it oneself one does not ask, and the assembly likewise has no doubt about it. Where the prose has four flowers, this verse text has two; this is a difference in combination and separation. The flowers are of sandalwood, and their fragrant breeze resembles red and white sandalwood; its aroma could be smelled from afar, and therefore delighted the minds of the multitude. The earth all being adorned and purified represents a difference between presence and absence in comparison with the prose text.
