贊曰：下現見世間文字章句意甚深因者，此說大教故，教是世間戲論名字章句故。意者意況，說教之所以也。即是舉古成今答。文中有三：一舉過去，二結成今，三釋其意。此初也。

Commentary: Below, regarding the cause of directly perceiving the exceedingly profound meaning of worldly words and phrases: this refers to preaching the great teaching, because teachings are worldly conceptual play, names, and phrases. “Meaning” refers to the purport—the reason why the teaching is spoken. This is the reply of adducing the past to establish the present. In the text there are three parts: first, adducing the past; second, concluding to establish the present; third, explaining its meaning. This is the first.
