贊曰：此四頌見菩薩種種因緣、信解、相貌、行菩薩道，唯頌信解，亂修行故。一頌勤、戒，欲顯在家、出家並得行菩薩行，故言比丘，或稱菩薩，精進遍策，戒是學本，故初舉之。一頌施、忍，言「等」者，施、忍非一，類有多故。一頌禪定，一頌智慧。

The Commentary says: These four verses on seeing the bodhisattvas' diverse causes and conditions, faithful understandings, appearances, and practices of the bodhisattva path only versify faithful understanding, because they broadly encompass practices. One verse is on diligence and precepts: wishing to show that both householders and renunciants alike can practice bodhisattva practices, it therefore speaks of 'monks' or refers to them as 'bodhisattvas'; vigorous diligence universally urges them on, and precepts are the basis of training, hence they are mentioned first. One verse is on giving and patience: speaking of 'and so forth' because giving and patience are not singular, but their varieties are manifold. One verse is on meditative absorption (dhyāna), and one verse is on wisdom (prajñā).
