贊曰：下第三請。初長行、後偈頌。長行有二：初總請、後堪聞。鶖子利根自知宿命，亦能曉他往世從釋迦已曾受化，根成道滿聞必能信，生死長夜安穩饒益，故今請說。

The Eulogy says: Below is the third request. First comes the prose, and later the verses. The prose has two parts: first, a general request; second, [showing their] capacity to hear. Śāriputra’s faculties are keen, and he knows his own past lives, while also being capable of knowing that others were previously converted by Śākyamuni in past lives; their faculties are ripe and their path complete, so upon hearing it they will surely believe, and through the long night of birth and death they will be secure and abundantly benefited. Therefore, he now requests the teaching.
