The Eulogy states: The subsequent three and a half verses concern what bodhisattvas do not know. This is divided into two parts: first, two and a half verses concern what ordinary bodhisattvas do not know; one verse concerns what the noble sages on the ten bhūmis also cannot know. This is the first. Newly resolved bodhisattvas possess six virtues: first, drawing near; second, penetrating the meaning; third, preaching well; fourth, having numerous assemblies; fifth, single-mindedness; and sixth, long duration; yet calculating and deliberating, they also do not know. *Kṣetra* is called *kṣetra* in Sanskrit, rendered here as 'field'—that is, field and land. Some render it 'country' and also 'land', which are semantic translations. The character was originally absent in dictionaries; the *Shuowen* writes it as 㓼, *chu* + *yi* in fanqie, the sound of a knife cutting something, the sound of millet falling, with the sound of *qi*.
