4.134

贊曰：下二頌半顯勝德，有二：初一頌半顯內離染無所畏德，後一頌顯外莊嚴說實法德。此初也。「若人信佛」初發心也。「歸佛」者後脩正行，如來不為欺陵輕賤而不授大純化以小，亦不誑逗，初許與大後不與之。所以者何？以佛亦無貪惜大乘誑而不與，亦無嫉妬畏彼證大而欺網之，由斷一切法中惡故。惡者煩惱、業、苦，生死惡法已永斷故。既無如上所說諸事，正智圓滿，故於十方都無所畏，作師子吼，我是一切智者、一切見者、平等化者。若有上事，惡既未盡智果未圓，如何於十方能作無畏吼？故俗中云父聞子健恨不殺身，自外何悋，故無貪嫉。

The Eulogy says: The following two and a half verses reveal superior virtues, having two parts: first, one and a half verses reveal the virtue of being inwardly free from defilement and having nothing to fear; next, one verse reveals the virtue of outward adornment and preaching the real Dharma. This is the first. 'If a person faithfully trusts the Buddha' is the initial generation of the mind. 'Takes refuge in the Buddha' is subsequently cultivating correct practice. The Tathāgata does not, out of deception, disdain, or contempt, refrain from conferring the Great and solely transform them with the Small; nor does he beguile and toy with them, initially promising to grant the Great and later not granting it. Why is this? Because the Buddha also has no greed or miserliness regarding the Great Vehicle so as to deceive and not grant it, nor does he have envy and jealousy fearing that they might realize the Great and thus hoodwink them, because he has severed all evil among dharmas. 'Evil' means afflictions, karma, and suffering: evil dharmas of saṃsāra have already been severed forever. Having none of the matters described above and his correct wisdom being complete, he therefore has no fear whatsoever throughout the ten directions, roaring the lion's roar: 'I am the all-knowing one, the all-seeing one, the impartial transformer.' If he had the above matters, evil not being exhausted and the fruit of wisdom not being complete, how could he utter the fearless roar in the ten directions? Therefore, common people say that when a father hears of his son's excellence, his only regret is not being able to sacrifice himself; what else would he withhold? Thus, there is no greed or envy.
