4.66

贊曰：自下釋第二疑。第二疑云，如來既不為增上慢人說者，云何知彼是增上慢？文中有三：初顯非真二乘聖相，次顯增上慢者相，後結成二真聖相。此初文也。聲聞辟支真聖趣寂，若遇佛者多不愚法，其不定姓可迴心者，不問近遠必能聞知佛化菩薩事故名。自謂是真二聖，而得遇佛，都不聞知化菩薩事，非佛聖弟子，亦非真二聖。

The Eulogy says: From here below, he resolves the second doubt. The second doubt asks: Since the Tathāgata does not teach for people of excessive pride, how can one know that they are of excessive pride? In the text there are three parts: first, revealing that this is not the characteristic of true sages of the two vehicles; second, revealing the characteristics of those of excessive pride; and finally, concluding the characteristics of the two true sages. This is the first passage. The true sages of the śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas who tend toward quiescence, if they encounter a buddha, mostly are not ignorant of the Dharma. Those of indeterminate lineage who can turn their minds, regardless of how near or far, will definitely be able to hear and know about the matter of the Buddha transforming bodhisattvas. If one considers oneself a true sage of the two vehicles and yet meets a buddha, but does not hear or know at all about the matter of transforming bodhisattvas, he is not a holy disciple of the Buddha, nor is he a true sage of the two vehicles.
