The Eulogy says: The three verses below versify the gravity of the roots of sin, distinguished by violating precepts, concealing sins, and obstructions of the Dharma. This is violating precepts. Committing minor infractions is 'flaw' (que); committing major infractions is 'breach' (lou), because they deserve reproach. Ruining the precepts is called a 'flaw'; ruining views is called a 'breach'. Or else, breaches of affliction arise yet they remain unperceptive and unaware, relying on their haughty mind; since within the precepts it says that, except for those of excessive pride, claiming to have attained sagehood oneself constitutes committing a grave offense, this is especially transgressive. It is not subsumed under 'samādhi not manifesting because śīla is not pure.' Now, speaking of violating precepts is stated in terms of general characteristics; they do not know the characteristics of transgression.
