The Eulogy says: Below, the second section of one hundred and eleven verses versifies the granting of prophecy. The prose had six [parts], and now it is also divided into six: the first six verses versify teaching; the next seven and a half verses versify causing to abide; the next one and a half verses versify prohibiting; the next eighteen and a half verses versify relying on what meaning; the next seventy and a half verses versify relying on the Dharma; the last seven verses versify causing those who have not heard to hear. Among these six differences, they differ before and after; thus the verse says: 'Six teach, seven and a half abide, / next one and a half prohibit, / eighteen and a half what kind, / seventy and a half, seven [and] two.' In the first six verses on teaching, there are two parts: the first four and a half verses versify the explanatory text below 'Why is that?'; the latter one and a half verses versify 'spoken in accordance with appropriateness, the purport is difficult to understand' in the preceding introductory statement. In the first part, there are again three: one verse versifies 'countless expedient means'; two verses versify 'various causes, conditions, metaphors, and expressions'—namely, metaphors, causes and conditions, mindful observations, and expedient means; one and a half verses versify 'proclaiming all dharmas.' This is the first. In the preceding prose, the introductory statement said, 'that which is spoken by the buddhas in accordance with appropriateness,' and in the explanation it said, 'I, with countless expedient means'; now this verse explains, 'The dharmas attained by the buddhas / and the power of immeasurable expedient means'—the earlier and later shadow and illuminate each other, and other and self mutually reveal each other, also without contradiction.
