二車對大因，門外三車設，權城對實果，中路化城施。理應相似，所對別故，施設不同，實應齊也。又種智彼無，勸學大，門外設三車，有餘涅槃大不求，中路二城設，設入無住，不名為假，非化城故。

The two carts correspond to the great cause, hence three carts were provided outside the gate; the provisional city corresponds to the real fruition, hence the conjured city was established halfway along the road. In principle they should be similar, but because what they correspond to is distinct, their establishment differs, though in reality they should be equal. Furthermore, omniscience is absent in them, so to encourage them to learn the Great [Vehicle], three carts were provided outside the gate; nirvāṇa with remainder is not sought by the Great, so two cities were established halfway along the road. Even if one enters the non-abiding [nirvāṇa], it is not called provisional, as it is not a conjured city.
