5.268

贊曰：上喻說實，下喻釋疑。即是前卷云「汝等當信解佛之所說，言不虛妄」，謂眾疑云：佛初說三、後但說一，前後既別，云何佛不成妄語人耶？故此釋之。文中有三：一問、二答、三印。此即初也。

The Commentary says: Above, the parable explained the real; below, the parable resolves doubts. This corresponds to what was said in the previous fascicle: "You all should faithfully understand what the Buddha has spoken, for his words are not false." This refers to the assembly's doubt: "The Buddha initially taught three, and later taught only one; since the earlier and later are different, how is the Buddha not a person of false speech?" Therefore this resolves it. In the text there are three parts: first, the question; second, the answer; third, the confirmation. This is the first part.
