贊曰：下況與其大乘，有二：初不得小非虛，不違先意故；後況得其大乘而成虛妄咎。此初也。初標、後釋。先心謂假設，許與其三車，今雖不得小，不違先假意。心境不相乖，故非成虛妄。

The Commentary says: Below, the a fortiori argument of giving them the Great Vehicle has two parts: first, not obtaining the small is not false, because it does not contradict the former intention; second, how much more so that obtaining the Great Vehicle could incur the fault of falsehood. This is the first part. First the statement, then the explanation. The former intention was a provisional formulation, promising to give them three carts; now, although they do not obtain the small, it does not contradict the former provisional intention. The mind and the objective sphere do not conflict with each other, therefore it does not constitute a falsehood.
