The Commentary says: Below is the second major section, matching the parable to the meaning, which has two parts: first, matching the past provisional; second, matching the present real, which starts from "Śāriputra, just as that elder saw all his sons safely emerge" downward. The first text has four parts: first, the match for the three realms belonging to the Buddha; second, from "in order to ferry sentient beings across birth and old age" downward, the match for the peril and destruction of the five destinies; third, from "seeing all sentient beings for the sake of birth, old age, sickness, and death" downward, the match for seeing and devising provisional means; fourth, from "Śāriputra, if there are sentient beings who inwardly possess wisdom" downward, the match for escaping disaster by relying on his words. The initial parable has six features: first, the location; second, the master of the house; third, the old and young; fourth, the property and wealth; fifth, the characteristics of the house; sixth, the doors and windows. Now the match has five, omitting the doors and windows. This text has two parts: first, "all the worlds" matches the location; second, "father" matches the master of the house. "World" refers to the world of sentient beings and the world of the vessel (environment). The Vimalakīrti-nirdeśa states: "The lands of sentient beings are precisely the pure buddha-lands adorned by the bodhisattva." Therefore, these two kinds of worlds are called the buddha-lands. The people are the root of the state; when the root is firm, the state is at peace, shedding light throughout all under heaven. "Father" has the meaning of procreating and nurturing; because he causes sentient beings to grow roots of virtue and succeed to the station of the Buddha-Father, he is called "father."
