贊曰：此合說也。攝智及通，但行方便勸脫三界，佛如良醫應病與藥，但方便教知欲如何，良醫豈得刀、手割除腹中之病不與藥耶？

The Commentary says: This is the corresponding explanation. Gathering up wisdom and supernatural penetrations, he solely practices expedient means to encourage deliverance from the three realms. The Buddha is like a skilled physician who administers medicine according to the illness; merely through expedient teachings, he learns what their desires are. How could a skilled physician use a knife and hands to cut away an illness in the belly without giving medicine?
