5.33

贊曰：下頌前釋，分四：初二頌半處小階而起歎，次五頌半失大法以興嗟，次十四頌喜今聞而惱盡，後一頌知佛子而道成，與前長行前後不同。故初中有二：初一頌半歎居小位，後之一頌頌所歎事。此初也。「嗚呼」者嗟歎詞。「云何自欺」者，欺者輕也。歎自小智住證於小不求大位，謂己無分名自欺輕。

Eulogy: Below, the versification of the preceding explanation is divided into four parts: first, two and a half verses give rise to lamentation at abiding in the lesser rank; next, five and a half verses sigh over losing the great Dharma; next, fourteen verses rejoice at hearing it now and having anguish exhausted; finally, one verse knows that one is a child of the Buddha and the path is accomplished. This differs from the order of the preceding prose. Thus, within the first part there are two: the first one and a half verses lament dwelling in the lesser stage, and the subsequent single verse versifies the matter lamented. This is the first. 'Alas!' is an expression of sighing and lamentation. 'Why have I deceived myself?': 'to deceive' means to disparage. He laments that with his own lesser wisdom he dwelt in and realized the lesser, not seeking the great rank; considering oneself to have no share is called self-deception and disparagement.
