5.44

贊曰：名利高廣德也。自欺賤故常自思惟，失佛此德不敢求大，自誑負故得小為足。

The commentary says: This is the virtue of lofty and vast fame and benefit. Deceiving himself into believing he was base, he constantly reflected on this; having lost this virtue of the Buddha, he did not dare to seek the Great [Vehicle]; misleading himself to his own loss, he took the small as sufficient.
