贊曰：下第二段有八頌，信者位高，皆久植德本。中有六頌：一頌位高能信，一頌半往遇佛緣曾聞方信，一頌半若有能信汝之所說即見我等，一頌智深能信識淺不能，一頌決定姓二乘所不能信，後二頌不定姓二乘方順生信。此初也。有聞此經心生隨喜，身心二頂敬而信之，當知是人住不退地。阿鞞跋致，此云不退，亦有本云阿惟越致、阿毘跋致，從阿鞞跋致為正，餘音訛也。信、位、證、行四不退中皆能爾故，根機熟故。

The Commentary says: Below, the second section has eight verses: the status of believers is high, all having long planted roots of virtue. Within this there are six verses: one verse on how high status enables belief; one and a half verses on how they believe only because they previously met conditions with buddhas and heard it before; one and a half verses on how if someone can believe what you teach, they immediately see us; one verse on how deep wisdom enables belief while shallow intellect cannot; one verse on how those of the two vehicles with fixed gotra cannot believe; and the last two verses on how those of the two vehicles with indefinite gotra will then sequentially generate belief. This is the first. If someone hears this sūtra and rejoices in accordance with it in mind, revering and believing it with both body and mind at their crown, one should know that this person abides in the stage of non-retrogression. Avaivartika: here translated as 'non-retrogression'; some versions also say avivartika or abhibadti, but avaivartika is taken as correct, the others being phonetic corruptions. This is because among the four non-retrogressions of faith, stage, realization, and practice, one is capable in all of them, because their faculties and capacities are mature.
