贊曰：此根缺也。初頌有一，佛前後難。第二有六難：地獄、畜生、餓鬼、北洲、長壽天，為生難處。世智辨聰難，為狂聾心亂永不聞法。第三頌有一，諸根不具難。合有八難，故無善也。

Commentary: This refers to deficient sense faculties. In the first verse there is one: the difficulty of being born before or after a Buddha. In the second [verse] there are six difficulties: hell, animals, hungry ghosts, Uttarakuru, and long-lived gods, which are difficult rebirth realms; the difficulty of having worldly wisdom and cleverness, which refers to being crazed, deaf, and mentally disordered, never hearing the Dharma. In the third verse there is one: the difficulty of having deficient sense faculties. Together these make eight difficulties (aṣṭāv akṣaṇāḥ), and thus there is no good [fruition].
