贊曰：下五頌復能求法重法。分二：初二頌半專求大乘，後二頌半諦求大乘。此初有二：初一頌求法頂受，後一頌半不求餘經。「餘經」者，小乘經也。《善戒經》說：「內學大乘未究竟，不得學餘乘、餘四明論。若內究竟，於日日中二分學大乘內明，一分學餘經。」此中全不許學餘經一偈，依初學者令專求故；久學兼脩。

Commentary: The five verses below concern further being able to seek and value the Dharma. They are divided into two: the first two and a half verses concern single-mindedly seeking the Mahāyāna; the latter two and a half verses concern genuinely seeking the Mahāyāna. In this first part there are two: the first one verse is seeking the Dharma and receiving it with the crown of the head; the latter one and a half verses are not seeking other sūtras. 'Other sūtras' refers to Hīnayāna sūtras. The *Bodhisattva-śīla-sūtra* says: 'When inwardly studying the Mahāyāna and not yet perfected, one may not study other vehicles and the other four treatises on vidyā. If inwardly perfected, each day one should devote two-thirds to studying the Mahāyāna inner vidyā and one-third to studying other scriptures.' Here, one is completely forbidden from studying even a single verse of other scriptures, which is based on causing beginners to seek single-mindedly; those of long study practice both concurrently.
