6.311

贊曰：此使逾急。悲心擊故教被彌切，抑令修學，名強牽將還。用為今時入大乘之因，所以逼之，非佛于時不知根器而抑將還。

Commentary: This explains the messenger becoming more urgent. Driven by a compassionate heart, the teaching applied was increasingly urgent; constraining him to cultivate and learn is called 'forcibly dragging him back.' Taking this as the cause for entering the Great Vehicle in the present time, he therefore pressured him; it is not that the Buddha at that time did not know his capacity and yet forcibly brought him back.
