6.339

贊曰：下共語。有二：初總與語勸勉，後別與語教示。此初也。示怖眾苦、慈悲接引，如狀有所畏。示現、教導、讚勵、慶慰、勸行精進，名語勤作。此乃世世從佛化時，故得近子。

Commentary: Below is speaking together. This has two parts: first, speaking to him generally to exhort and encourage him; later, speaking to him individually to instruct him. This is the first. Manifesting fear of the multitude of sufferings and compassionately leading him on is like 'appearing to be fearful.' Manifesting, instructing, praising, consoling, and encouraging the practice of vigor is called 'telling him to work diligently.' This refers to when [the son] was transformed by the Buddha across successive lifetimes; hence, he was able to approach his son.
