The Commentary says: This concludes the matter. Non-Buddhists generate afflictions that are false and inverted, like 'yakṣas and hungry ghosts.' Householders generate afflictions that are indulgent and ignorant, like 'various evil birds and beasts.' Reiterating what was explained above: because they give rise to those, they do not comprehend correct principle. Poor and lacking wisdom is like being 'famished and urgent'; householders wander through the four states of birth, old age, sickness, and death. Encountering evil conditions everywhere, delusions arise, like 'famished and urgent in the four directions.' Non-Buddhists cannot look correctly upon the portal of the cause of nirvāṇa, and falsely practicing painful austerities they view correct principle as if 'peering through windows,' because their practice is not upright. Such various difficulties are 'immeasurably terrifying,' briefly stating suffering and delusion. If various difficulties are already like this, how much more endless are the principles and metaphors for various evil karmas! Gui (闚) is also written as kui (窺), meaning a small glance. Looking secretly at one another is called kui in southern Chu.
