6.395

贊曰：此知佛唯以大乘化故得。今此經中唯說一乘，故知但以一乘為宗，不說一身以為宗也。昔時毀呰聲聞，但為化菩薩，令學一乘故。佛意既然，故我今得，即領前言「如是皆為得一佛乘、一切種智」故。今此本言「說於大乘」，今此經中。亦有本言「說大乘法」，於此經中義勢相似。

The commentary says: This is knowing that the Buddha converts solely through the Great Vehicle, hence obtaining it. Now in this sūtra, only the Single Vehicle is expounded; therefore we know that it takes only the Single Vehicle as its principal teaching, and does not speak of one body as its principal teaching. In the past, reviling the śrāvakas was solely for transforming bodhisattvas, causing them to study the Single Vehicle. Since the Buddha's intention was like this, we now obtain it; this directly receives the earlier statement: "All these are done so as to attain the One Buddha Vehicle and omniscience." Now this edition says "expounding the Great Vehicle"; in this sūtra, there is also an edition saying "expounding the Dharma of the Great Vehicle", the meaning and force in this sūtra being similar.
