Commentary: Below are five verses on the father's wish being fulfilled and his mind being at peace. It is divided into two: one and a half verses on rejoicing after seeing them; three and a half verses on rejoicing exceedingly and telling others. This is the first.

"The crossroads" are the principles of the four noble truths. When the children had come out and were standing at the crossroads, the father then sat upon the lion seat, because he attained fearlessness and to show that his mind was at peace. Because of this, it says next, "At that time the children knew their father was seated at peace"; thus the lion seat is the father's seat. Well suiting the father's intent, it says "happy." That is, formerly, having attained bodhi, while sentient beings were still in the tally of causes, when preaching the Dharma he displayed that he was about to deliver them; the meaning is the same as preparing to rescue and waiting for his children, which is why he was said to be standing. Now that the children's fruit is complete and they have come out of the burning house, the father has no need to wait, and with his mind at peace he sits down.
