贊曰：下釋前標。有三：初明總知，次明別知，後結佛知、眾生不知。此初也。種相有為類別，體性無為理本。又心行作用為種相，心法體性名體性。

The commentary says: Below is the explanation of the preceding presentation. There are three parts: first, explaining universal knowledge; next, explaining particular knowledge; and finally, concluding with the Buddha knowing while sentient beings do not know. This is the first. "Species and marks" are the differentiations of conditioned phenomena; "substance and nature" are the unconditioned principle and origin. Furthermore, the functions of mental activity are species and marks, while the substance and nature of mental dharmas are called substance and nature.
