贊曰：下第二段三人授記中初請、後授。請中初長行請儀軌，後頌正請。此初也。「悚」者怖也、懼也。「慄」者戰也、謹也、敬也、戚也。心求記果不敢專輒，既怯威嚴所以戰懼。

The Commentary says: Below, in the second section, the conferral of prophecy upon the three persons, first they make their request, and later it is conferred. In the request, the prose first gives the protocol of the request, and the verses later present the request proper. This is the first. 'Song' (悚) means terrified, fearful. 'Li' (慄) means trembling, cautious, reverent, anxious. Because their minds sought the fruit of prophecy, they did not dare to presume on their own; having been overawed by his majestic dignity, they therefore trembled and feared.
