7.257

贊曰：下喻請。分二：初一頌半喻，後二頌半請。此初也。小乘匱乏大乘之法，名為飢國。佛之一乘，名為王膳。今者得聞，名為忽遇。疑己無分不敢脩行，名未敢食。佛與授記，名得王教。因授記後領納大乘，修行大行欣當作佛，名方敢食。

The Commentary says: Below is the request through a simile. It is divided into two: the first verse and a half is the simile, and the subsequent two and a half verses are the request. This is the first. The Small Vehicle's lacking the Dharma of the Great Vehicle is called 'a land of famine.' The Buddha's Single Vehicle is called 'the royal feast.' Now coming to hear it is called 'suddenly encountering.' Doubting that one has any share in it and not daring to practice is called 'not daring to eat.' The Buddha's conferring prophecy is called 'receiving the king's command.' Because after receiving the prophecy one accepts the Great Vehicle, practices the great deeds, and rejoices in becoming a buddha in the future, it is called 'only then daring to eat.'
