贊曰：四頌半讚。分四：一頌讚禮，一頌半歎希有，一頌歎為眼目，一頌歎為慈父。此初也。「迦陵頻伽」，妙音鳥也，以聲柔軟清亮哀雅，故以為喻。

The Commentary says: Four and a half verses of praise. Divided into four: one verse of praise and homage; one and a half verses praising his rarity; one verse praising him as the eye; one verse praising him as the compassionate father. This is the first. 'Kalaviṅka' is a bird of wondrous song; because its voice is soft, clear, plaintive, and elegant, it is used as a metaphor.
