贊曰：此中有二：第四三根領悟，第五說法時節。上根菩薩聞之信受，中根聲聞亦有信解，下根餘類皆生疑惑，是法華經難信解故、下根眾生機未熟故。為今時漸，故說彼時有疑惑者。

The Commentary says: In this there are two [parts]: fourth, the three faculties comprehending; fifth, the time of the preaching of the Dharma. Bodhisattvas of superior faculties, hearing it, believed and accepted it; śrāvakas of middling faculties also had faith and understanding; the remaining kinds of inferior faculties all gave rise to doubt and perplexity, because this Lotus Sūtra is difficult to believe and difficult to understand, and because the capacity of sentient beings of inferior faculties was not yet mature. As an expedient gradualism for the present time, it is said that those at that time had doubt and perplexity.
