贊曰：下第三段諸子傳燈。有三：一佛入寂定，二諸子說法，三所度多少。此初也。知子根熟，令子傳燈，故入寂定。

The Commentary says: The third section below is the sons passing on the lamp. There are three [parts]: first, the Buddha enters quiescent absorption; second, the sons preach the Dharma; third, the quantity of those delivered. This is the first. Knowing that the faculties of his sons were mature, in order to let the sons pass on the lamp, he therefore entered quiescent absorption.
