贊曰：上會佛事，下會弟子事。有二：初正會弟子事，後「我滅度後復有」下釋疑難。初文復二：初明昔化，後「爾時所化」下正結會之。初文復二：初明昔化，後「是諸人等」下明住小所以。此初也。本化大乘，於今有住聲聞地者，然於法華會前常為說《般若》等經，方便密化大乘，然彼不知我之所化事。

The Commentary says: Above he identified the buddhas; below he identifies the disciples. There are two [parts]: first, directly identifying the disciples; later, under "After my extinction there will again be...", answering doubts and objections. Originally transformed by the Mahāyāna, there are those who presently abide in the stage of śrāvakas; however, before the assembly of the Lotus Sūtra, he constantly preached sūtras such as the Prajñāpāramitā for them, through expedient means secretly transforming them toward the Mahāyāna, yet they did not know the matters of my transformation.
