7.77

贊曰：三佛不為說故我不悕。簡擇於我觀根未熟故見捨我，未曾勸進令修大乘說有實利，故我不悕。初「不勸」者據今生來，非曾不勸，久已勸故。

Commentary: Third: because the Buddha did not expound it for us, we did not aspire. Discerning us and seeing that our faculties were not yet mature, he therefore saw fit to forsake us, never encouraging us to cultivate the Mahāyāna or expounding that there is true benefit; therefore we did not aspire. The initial 'did not encourage' is based on this present life onward; it is not that he had never encouraged us, for he had already encouraged us long ago.
