7.83

贊曰：二始于今日方名得果體。初一頌總辨先得果非真、今得是實。「道」謂證智，「果」謂無為。後二頌今得果是實。由前因證於中初頌持戒因得報，後頌梵行滿得大果，皆以勝昔。

Commentary: Second: only beginning from today is it called attaining the substance of the fruit. The first verse generally distinguishes that the fruit attained before was not true, whereas the attainment today is real. 'Path' refers to the wisdom of realization; 'fruit' refers to the unconditioned. The subsequent two verses show that the fruit attained today is real. Realization occurs due to previous causes: among them, the first verse shows obtaining the retribution through the cause of upholding the precepts, and the latter verse shows attaining the great fruit through the completion of pure conduct (brahmacarya), both excelling the past.
